ESJAM Growing Young Minds Garden Initiatives

ESJAM (2018 – 2019) ‘Growing Young Minds’ Garden continued to flourish and provided enriching learning experiences for all our students! 

 

Kindergarten  – planted tulips in the Butterfly / Three Sisters Indigenous & Herb garden in the fall

- Our Butterfly Garden was fabulous! Kindergarten – Gr. 2 students released many butterflies after watching the Butterfly Life cycle happen before their eyes in their classrooms.

Community Garden Clean-up– Neighbours, parents, teachers and students worked together to clean our gardens and put them to bed for the winter

Mrs. Barton’s Grade 5/6 Class & Loving Spoonful (Brenda Moore) worked together to

Garden Club (Grade 1-6 Class Representatives)– Planted spring bulbs (daffodils, tulips and hyacinths), ran a school wide winter garden contest, learned how to grow an indoor herb gardens & worked to design and collaboratively plant Christine Innocente’s neighbourhood garden

 

Raised Garden Beds (Spring Planting/ Summer Care) for students to inquire, observe, care for, discover and harvest in the fall 

         Kindergarten– sunflowers

         Gr. 1-2– pumpkins 

Gr. 3 – Indigenous Three Sisters & Herb / Butterfly Garden

Gr. 4 -5– squash (Grade 4)

Gr. 6 - Grow a barrel/grow bag full of potatoes
